When we study the history of the United States, we often focus on the American Revolution and the drafting of the Constitution. They are undoubtedly our birth as a nation, but to fully grasp their significance, we need to look further back in time and across the ocean to English history. English history is the pre-history of America, shaping the thoughts, values, and beliefs of the Founding Fathers. Without an understanding of English history, it is challenging to comprehend why America was founded the way it was and what the Founding Fathers aimed to achieve. It is a history of towns and shires. Of knights, damsels, bandits, clerics, kings, parliaments, wicked courtiers, wild-eyed reformers and crusades. And adventurers who eventually made their way to Virginia in 1607.
